The Maryland Department of Transportation wants to thank you for your participation at the 2016 Maryland Strategic Highway Safety Summit. The Summit served as an opportunity to learn, share and gather best practices that will serve as the foundation for the 2016-2020 Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP).
The mission of the Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO) is to save lives and prevent injuries by reducing the number and severity of motor-vehicle crashes through a comprehensive and effective network of traffic safety programs.
The Summit included attendees from the 4 E's of highway safety (Engineering, Enforcement, Education, & Emergency Medical Services). Approximately 170 attended the one day event on April 26, 2016. Presentations were delivered from the SHSP emphasis area teams which included - Aggressive Driving, Distracted Driving, Highway Infrastructure, Impaired Driving, Occupant Protection and Pedestrian Safety, with a special press event focusing on the 2015 fatalities.
